Opening Ceremony

The Moussem of TanTan, which is subscribed as the oral and intangible world heritage by the UNESCO, was held this year under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King, may God glorify, under the theme "The Moussem of TanTan, a shared cultural heritage between Morocco and Africa", notably with the participation of Senegal as a guest of honor, as well as a large Emirati delegation from Abu Dhabi.

The opening ceremony of the Moussem was held  in the presence of Mohammed Fadel Benyaich, President of the Almouggar Foundation, Mohamed Laâraj, Minister of Culture and Communication, Mohamed Sajid, Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Crafts and Social Economy, Jamila El Moussali, Secretary of State for Crafts and Social Economy, Lamia Boutaleb, Secretary of State for Tourism and Air Transport, Birane Niang, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture in Senegal, as well as around twenty African ambassadors accredited in Rabat.

Several high personalities including foreign ministers, invited to this national event, as well as the authorities and several notables of the Region, took part in this opening ceremony which retraced the history and genesis of the Moussem in a show.

A cultural heritage shared between Morocco and Africa

Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI may God glorify, the Almouggar Foundation for the Preservation and Promotion of the Moussem of Tan-Tan organized the 13th edition of the Moussem from 05th to 10th of May 2017 under the theme "Moussem of Tan-Tan :a shared heritage between Morocco and Africa". The 13th edition of Tan-Tan Moussem intended to be rich and diverse. It has put Africa in the spotlight, on high royal instructions; by the presence of the Republic of Senegal as a guest of honor, sister country of Morocco because of the cultural and heritage similarities and deep, historical and spiritual ties that bind the two countries. Thus celebrating the return of Morocco to its African family.

Senegal honored in 2017

"The cultural diversity is an inherent characteristic of humanity, it constitutes a common heritage of humanity and creates a rich and varied world which widens the possible choices, nourishes the capacities and the human values" These few lines drawn from the preamble of the UNESCO convention on culture, shows the importance of promoting and protecting cultural diversity.

 

Senegal has included cultural diversity in the preamble of its constitution. Thus, culture has become the bedrock of its development. The rich and great diversity of the Senegalese people make its culture very rich and varied.

Confirming the deep historical attachment of Morocco and its African prolongation, the Moussem of Tan-Tan was marked, on high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, by the presence of the Republic of Senegal as guest of honor, a sister country of Morocco.

 

An important Senegalese delegation took part in the official festivities of this 13th edition of the Moussem of Tan-Tan, led by his excellency Birane Niang, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture in Senegal.

 

An artistic delegation and exhibitors were also present in Tan-Tan to show the many expected visitors, the entire population of Tan-Tan, guests and the media, the richness and diversity of Senegalese heritage in a tent specially dedicated to this effect, on the square of Peace and Tolerance.

Conference on Investment

Intended to present the culture and traditional arts of Saharan Morocco and its division between Morocco and Africa, the 13th edition of the Moussem of Tan-Tan was characterized by the organization of the Green Invest Conference in which took part leading national and international operators, particularly in Africa, to address the business environment, the industrial acceleration plan and investment opportunities in the promising sectors.

This conference was organized on the site of Oued Chbika, by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy, in partnership with the Moroccan Agency for the development of Investment and in coordination with the Foundation Almouggar.

An opportunity for the economic operators of the Tan-Tan Region and Guelmim Oued Noun, to meet the national and international personalities invited and to be able to create links likely to develop the economic cooperation, the expansion of commercial possibilities as well as job creation in the region.

Diplomatic Attendence

The Tan-Tan Moussem: A shared cultural heritage between Morocco and Africa, was the theme of the 13th edition of this major event, which put Africa in the spotlight, demonstrating the profound attachment of the Kingdom to its African roots.

 

This edition was enhanced by the presence of the African diplomatic corps of more than 30 countries accredited in Morocco, who responded to the invitation of the Almouggar Foundation and the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation to attend the official opening of the Moussem, celebrating the return of Morocco to its African family.

Artistic Programming

The Tan-Tan Moussem, for its 13th edition, witnessed a unique artistic program and the installation of two equipped stages, one in Tan-Tan and the other in El Ouatia, as well as an acoustic scene in Chbika.

 

The show, produced at square Biranzarane and El Ouatia, was intended primarily for the inhabitants of the city and allowed for the creation of a diversified entertainment and an original musical journey.

 

Innovative meetings were proposed during the Moussem between renowned national artists, regional artists and Senegalese musicians who honored us with their attendance.

 

A selection of Moroccan artists of different styles and generations was staged during the same show, solo, in duet, or trio, before finishing all together in a colorful performance.

 

The spectacle of lights has transformed the scenes into a theater offering multiple and unforgettable atmospheres full of emotions and sensations.

Sports and Recreational Activities

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

The Tan-Tan Moussem returned this year to promote intangible heritage with a rich and varied program, comprising sports and recreational activities, eagerly awaited by the youth of Tan-Tan.

The children of El Ouatia and Tan-Tan were able to be physically active and express themselves through mini-football, basketball, tennis and surf tournaments, organized with the support of the Department of Youth and Sports and awarded by prizes in a joyful atmosphere.

RECREATION & EDUCATION

The children of Tan-Tan and the neighboring communities, were delighted to discover a range of educational activities organized with the help of the Department of National Education and National Assistance, including poetry competition, traditional games, filmed stories about the Moussem, which were also crowned by the award ceremony in a pleasant atmosphere.

 

These activities allowed children to express their attachment to their culture and the importance of transmission by their elders, in order to preserve and perpetuate a unique and universal heritage.

Medical Caravan of Solidarity

The TanTan Moussem was distinguished by the launch, by Mohammed V Foundation, of a medical caravan which objective was to provide vulnerable categories of people with free and appropriate medical care. This caravan aimed to provide emergency care to sick people in precarious situation.

 

This initiative is a successful example of coordination between the two Foundations, with a view to strengthen the approximation of health services to the population. It also testifies the commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist, to ensure equitable access of citizens to health care, as well as the consecration of the values ​​and culture of solidarity within the Moroccan society.

 

Several hundred interventions were made during this campaign, in all disciplines, to the general satisfaction of the organizers and beneficiaries.

Barid El Magrhib 2017

The Almouggar Foundation has celebrated with its partner Barid El Maghrib a unique moment, which will remain engraved in the history of the Moussem and in the memory of the population of Tan-Tan, characterized by the special issue of a postage stamp, which comes to confirm Barid El Maghrib's deep commitment to the preservation of the intangible heritage of the nomadic culture.

 

This new postage stamp thus enriches the national philatelic heritage and confirms the role of the postage stamp as a witness and memory of the Nation. The postage stamp, omnipresent on the various correspondences, is the reflection of an era, a culture, an event. It conveys an image to contemplate and a message to decode.
